Welcome to a brand spanking new issue of Geek Life Lately! I considered bringing back the daily blogging but it’s just not attainable, the amount of effort that goes into it when I have work plus a life isn’t possible. So weekly blogging is back!
Monday 20th – Cooper’s Birthday
Monday was Cooper’s birthday. I can’t believe he is 2 already. We celebrated on Saturday, much like we do most Saturdays with coffee and cake for the humans, roast chicken for lunch followed by a lazy afternoon. Thank you for being an awesome little friend, the snugs and making me laugh. 🍰 We love you baby seal. 💖

the lurgy
I started feeling a bit off at the weekend, I’ve done several COVID tests and very surprised to see it was negative but I guess there are still regular cold and flu viruses spreading along with coronavirus. It’s like an old school head cold, which I haven’t had in a long time, probably because we’ve spent 2 years wearing masks and staying away from people.

I spent the day on the sofa, but I feel like I should be doing something like working on the computer or tidying the house. I did manage to put a load of washing in and change the bed so there’s a win. I also tinkered around on the blog while I watched Billionaire Boys Club on HBO. It was a good film, I’d never heard of it before. If you liked The Wolf of Wall Street you should check it out and it’s based on a true story.
It got really hot this afternoon so we went for a drive to get a bit of air and see if that helped clear my cold. We listened to Black Eyed Peas album Translation in the car and I caught a Wimpod in Pokémon Go. 😅
E made some pizza and we watched Agatha and the Midnight Murders on tv. It was very good! Helen Baxendale played Agatha Christie and it was set in a hotel in the 1940s. It made me think about how much I miss Poirot. It might be time to crack out the box set again.
Tuesday 21st
Happy first day of Summer! It’s San Juan this week which is one of my favourite celebrations and a time to reflect and set goals, better than NYE in my opinion.
I’ve woken up very early to chug some water and take some paracetamol because I’m still not feeling well and now my kidneys have started to hurt on top of that. It’s always the same when I’m not 100%, my poor kidneys take a hit too and the heat doesn’t help. Hopefully I’ll be able to get back to sleep soon. While I was wide awake I thought I’d blog a little.
I hit my 600 day Duolingo streak in Spanish! 🙏🏻
Today is the big Fall Guys update. It’s now free to play for all consoles and there are new courses. My plan was to stream the new update but I don’t have the energy at the moment. Maybe later in the week.
I did get on and play for a while before the servers crashed and so I made Fall Guys memes and videos instead haha.
Wednesday 22nd
We made it until June 22nd but it’s finally time to put the air conditioning back on since last year. The Uk equivalent would be refusing to put the heating on until absolutely necessary. We have a portable fan + air con combo which was much needed today as I have had a bit of a fever.
On this day in 2021 I was getting my first COVID vaccine!
Watching
Happy Obi-Wan Kenobi day! That last episode was *chef’s kiss* If you watched it then you will know. I thoroughly enjoyed it and can’t wait for the next season.
Watching the first episode of Ultimate Beastmaster Spain, I realised I would be out on the ramp obstacle at the very start. 😂
Social Media
Today Twitter announced Twitter notes. It’s a way of sharing longer posts on Twitter. From what I’ve seen it will be like having a blog hosted on Twitter. Here’s hoping it doesn’t disappear like Fleets did (which I really liked). I can see Twitter notes being very handy for making newsletters, for anyone who has considered starting a blog and those of us who like to write reallllly long threads. lol
Fitness
I managed 2 short walks to get some fresh air, I still felt like crap but glad I moved a bit 😷
Thursday 23rd
Today we celebrate noche de San Juan and summer solstice with bonfire night, fireworks and picnics at the beach. Obviously with being sick I didn’t go but I do like to set new goals around this time of year.
Fitness
My body needed some movement but my fitness games were too intense so I did the 7 Minute Yoga Boost video with Adriene on YouTube.
It’s a short and sweet standing yoga practice, no floor work which was good for my blocked nose. A much needed stretch and mindful minutes.
Gaming
After that I spent the morning making Fall guys memes and checking out Playstation plus subscription. PlayStation Essential isn’t what I thought it was going to be. E has the plus subscription and I just piggy back off his account when I play online. His plus account transferred to Playstation Essential, which isn’t anything to write about.
My brain is so foggy at the moment with being sick, but thanks to a few twitter friends I figured it out. I had assumed there would be a couple of older games free on a catalog for Essential but I understand now. I think we’ll upgrade. I tried Playstation Now out a while back and really liked having PS3 games to play.
Watching
At this point in the week I am one with the sofa and found myself watching Get A Clue (Disney+) starring Lindsay Lohan. I hadn’t seen it before, it was something easy to watch and fun to see all the 2000’s fashion.
Thoughts
- Why can’t cold and flu medicine taste like something other than floor cleaner? 😂
- On this day 2021 I had Pfizer Fever.
- E made Arroz a la Cubana for lunch today. Island food is the best.
Friday 24th
School is officially out for Summer here. I know there’s another month left in some countries before the summer break starts but here it is getting busier and from now on beaches will be packed for the next 3 months.
Gaming
I upgraded to Playstation Premium, went directly to the classics catalog to check what LEGO games were included and found LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean. How have I never played this before?

Sticking with the pirate theme I also played The Secret of Monkey Island. I will do separate gaming reviews on these soon. I have so many thoughts!
After some consideration I made a dedicated Twitter account for the Fitness Game Club to spread positivity and motivation in the fitness gaming community.
The club is growing and I want to be able to retweet and cheer on everyone who is joining in without spamming my own Twitter feed. I have all different friends and followers on my main account who aren’t interested in fitness gaming, so it made sense.
Saturday 25th
Saturday is our day with Chester and Cooper, we went for coffee and cake, chilled out and had McDonalds takeaway. I’m feeling much better aside from a twitchy left eye which seems to be a side effect of my blocked nose. Our water has been on and off for the past week so it was nice to finally wash my hair.
Sunday 26th
Today is a day for relaxing, playing video games and watching films. We went out earlier for coffee and some fresh air.
This afternoon I found out I’ve been in contact with someone who has been directly in contact with several people who had COVID last week so I think it’s safe to say I have also had it despite all of my negative tests. 🙃
I heard that sometimes the antigeno tests don’t work or will show negative depending on what stage of the virus you are at. I’m glad I’ve been wearing my mask and staying away from people all week but in general it seems people have stopped caring.
How was your week? I hope you enjoyed this style of post and I would love to know your thoughts in the comments on any of the topics mentioned.
Thanks for reading,
Vikki ✨
