I Think I Smell a Barbecue!

Spyro is like an old childhood friend so it was a no-brainer to pick up the Spyro Reignited Trilogy for PS4.  It was a physical copy of the game and a birthday present the week of release so even better!  This purple dragon certainly brings back memories 90s gaming, huddled round my brother’s PlayStation.  On booting up we have the choice of 3 Spyro games which all come on one disc.  There is a long download wait but you can play Spyro right away.

Spyro Reignited Trilogy Trailer

Read to bring the heat!

Spyro Nostalgia FTW!

The graphics are absolutely beautiful, the nostalgia still tickling my brain but dramatically improved.

Like autopilot my brain remembered a lot of the tricks and controls off bat.  I found the entrance to Sunny Flight aka ‘the level from hell’ despite there being a 16 year gap since I last played a Spyro game.  The satisfaction of freeing each dragon from the statues still hit right after all these years.

At first I enjoyed charging round getting my bearings, until I found myself in Dark Hollow!

That’s when the flashbacks truly began for me.  Maybe I got stuck on that level a lot in the past, who knows?  What I do know is that the music in Dark Hollow really brought it back for me.

Anyone who has played a Spyro the Dragon game can admit to watching the cute little guy on standby, watching him clean his paws and do a few yoga poses.

CUTEEK REVIEW

What is it? An adorable purple dragon flies round saving older dragons and sets fire to things
Liked: Bright colors, cute characters and music. Nostalgia.
Disliked: Frustrating repeating levels (skill issue) flying levels and big jumps
Hours Played:

Soup Moms and Baby Dragons

Clifftown.. more like Soup Town lol am I right?  I actually go the egg thief here by mistake and don’t seem to remember this level at all haha.  My fave enemies were the soup moms and the 3 Jurassic Park babies running around.

Ice Cavern is the level with the beautiful Northern Lights, fun enemies with snowballs and winter vibes.

Soon after I met the OG Doctor Shemp for a classic mini boss fight.

Come not between the dragon, and his wrath

Magic Crafters World is where I slowed to an old dragon pace.  I didn’t enjoy this as much as other levels and worlds and my lack of skill in some jumps were halting my progress.  I did like the wizard enemies although the spiders were creepy AF!  Here’s where I encountered a glitch with the Egg Thief on Alpine Ridge and I guess I didn’t play after that.  To be fair my PlayStation 4 controller at the time was destroyed from E’s intense Star Wars Battlefront 2015 sessions.
