It’s time for a new Nintendo Direct and this one has Nintendo fans worldwide excited for updates and new games. Check out this quick summary of what’s coming soon and my predictions.

I wasn’t able to watch live as it was on at 11pm 👵🏻 but I did share some of my predictions on social media prior to watching.
My Nintendo Direct predictions:
- The ability to stream directly from the Nintendo Switch to Twitch and YouTube. The recent addition of Bluetooth audio has given me hope that Nintendo are heading in this direction. This would encourage a whole new wave of streamers.
- On that note, an update to the sharing button features. There’s just something missing.
- An Animal Crossing update. Halloween is on the way so I’m guessing they will mention that in the Direct. A trailer or something would be nice. I would like to see some of the Pocket Camp elements added to New Horizons, such as gifting friends and an improvement on events. The Bug Off and Fishing Tourneys are loads better in Pocket Camp IMO.
- New fitness games! As you may know I’ve been using fitness gaming as a way of getting in shape and working on my Fit By 40 goal. I would love to see something new, maybe a Ring Fit Adventure 2 or an update to the existing game would be nice.
Nintendo Direct September 2021
This 40 minute presentation focuses on upcoming winter releases. If you haven’t seen it yet you can watch below.
Chocobo GP – A new racing game
Chocobo GP by Square Enix looks very cute. It was time for a new racing game for Switch but could that have been in the form of a new Mario Kart update?
You can play as characters from Final Fantasy local and online, with up to 64 players in an 8 on 8 elimination tournament. I don’t think this is something that I will pick up but it’s the first game to stand out from the direct so far. Mario Kart and racing fans will probably really enjoy this.
“A racing experience featuring Chocobo and FINAL FANTASY characters comes to Nintendo Switch in 2022! In Chocobo GP, race across familiar FINAL FANTASY and Chocobo tracks, and use special character abilities and Magicites to speed past the competition.”
Kirby and The Forgotten Land
I’m a sucker for any kind of island adventure so Kirby and The Forgotten Land really stood out. This cute platformer is sure to be popular with those who enjoyed Super Mario Odyssey, Toad’s Treasure Tracker and Yoshi’s Crafted World. There’s still some time to wait for this as it releases Spring 2022 but it’s going on my wish list for sure.
“In this new unforgettable 3D platforming adventure, Kirby explores a mysterious world full of abandoned structures from a past civilization. What surprises await the pink puffball? Kirby and the Forgotten Land releases Spring 2022!”
Animal Crossing New Horizons – The Roost!!!
Right after the Kirby trailer I heard the first few notes of the Animal Crossing museum music and a glimpse of Blathers. I quickly had to press pause to compose myself. Although I was hoping for ACNH news, I wasn’t expecting it this early in the Direct. What could be coming to New Horizons?!
OMG OMG OMG OMG!!!! Nintendo totally confused me there by setting this in the museum. The AC character goes up the stairs to a sign on the left and it says The Roost Open 24-7 and then that familiar music plays.
Brewster and The Roost coffee shop is on the way! Now we can load up on Pumpkin Spice lattes on our island and get caffeinated. 😜 So many Animal Crossing players including myself are going to be so happy with this update. Now I really want some coffee in real life! What do you think about this update?
Not only that, we are getting an Animal Crossing Direct in October with more details on new content! Thank you Nintendo. I’m guessing this will be early October so they can add in any Halloween info? Apparently new free content will be available in November (and more).
New Nintendo Switch Online Membership
A membership within a membership? New content includes Nintendo 64 games which you can play locally or online with up to 4 people. Alongside this there will also be a collection of SEGA mega drive games.
They are calling this addition an expansion pack which starts late October so those with an existing membership can switch over to the new one. I’m not 100% sure of this but I do want to have that library of Nintendo 64 games that I never got chance to play first time round including Yoshi’s Story, Super Mario 64 and The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time.
Majora’s Mask and the original Pokémon Snap are also future releases. Hopefully it’s not too much money on top of the current subscription. The SEGA mega drive games that stand out for me are Sonic the Hedgehog 2 and Ecco the Dolphin.
To really get in the spirit of these retro games, Nintendo are releasing a Nintendo 64 controller and a SEGA Mega Drive control pad both of these can be used wirelessly.
What releases and updates are you looking forward mentioned in this Direct? Let me know in the comments below.
