The one where Marvel made a Batman movie?!
For anyone who’s ever wanted to see a rare bleeding disorder represented in a superhero movie – this one’s for you!
What’s it about?
Morbius is about an incredibly talented Doctor who has a life threatening blood illness that wants to help people like him have a better quality of life. He develops a cure but at what cost?
🚨 Spoilers ahead, you have been warned!
Bats, evolution and vampirism!! Dr Michael Morbius uses bats to create a serum that cures his bleeding disorder. The cure turns him into the ultimate Bat – man, super strong with powers he could only dream of, although he must drink human blood to curb his urges.
The Good Stuff
This film had so many moments that made me point at the screen and say “HELL YES!” The special effects were INCREDIBLE and some of my fave moments were where Michael was gliding about and the Venom style effect that followed him. Also a nice Venom Easter Egg that made me lol.
That Scene Though
When he jumped from the roof to save Dr Martine Bancroft, his essence was purple. There was a full on Dracula moment when he was fighting on the Wyman Hotel with his lifelong best friend Milo. The hanging upside down and red / pink flash of his coat was PERFECT!
Also harnessing the power of the bats like, WHAT! I felt happy that Michael Morbius was on the good side of this fight and the bats were helping.
ALSO OMG when Martine “woke up” on the roof top where she’d been left for dead, with the vampire eyes! Yes! I need more Morbius films and sequels.
The Honest Bit
So for some reason Milo’s grey Reebok Classic shoes bugged the heck out of me! I also didn’t like Matt Smith’s character in this. Of course he’s an incredible actor if it means I disliked him. He’s amazing in House of The Dragon!
The script has him call out “Michael” a lot (which was annoying) But I was immediately reminded of The Lost Boys as David called out for newbie vampire Michael in a similar way.
Not sure if this was intentional by the script writers as a little “tip of the hat” to such an iconic vampire movie but I definitely picked up on it.
(Apparently the characters called out Michael 118 times in The Lost Boys)
Ok so now I totally have to do a Lost Boys rewatch haha. Here’s a fun compilation video:
Should You Watch It?
Of course this is a must watch for Jared Leto, Matt Smith fans and those who love the Marvel Universe. I’d also recommend it to anyone who wants to see a kick ass film about someone in the bleeding disorder community. And anyone who love vampire movies.
Cuteek Verdict 💖
If you’ve been reading this blog for a while you know how I enjoy the Batman games and films. My favourite Batman will always be Michael Keaton and Tim Burton’s 1989 version is just chef’s kiss.
Soooo, imagine my surprise, when I see a very lost looking Keaton drop in at the end of Morbius??! I guess well have to wait and see what happens there.
I actually loved this film, I have family in the bleeding disorder community and so that element was very interesting to me. To see the lengths that someone would go to for a cure and to see some representation in the superhero space.
I need more Jared Leto as Morbius pls! 🧛♂️
