Mel Robbins 5 Second Rule Review
Mel Robbins 5 Second Rule completely changed my mindset and I hope it helps you too!
When it comes to self help books there’s certainly no one size fits all.
To start with you have to want to make some changes in your life and secondly you might just need a little encouragement, which is where Mel comes in.

Stacey recommended that I listen to the audiobook version of 5 Second Rule and it was perfect timing for me.

Mel Robbins is an awesome motivational speaker and author who really understands life problems that many of us are going through, from a personal point of view and she’s done the studies to back it all up. She really knows what she’s talking about!
Mel’s TED talk How to stop screwing yourself over has over 25 MILLION views on Youtube alone.
When I first heard the title of this book I thought, what on earth is it about? The 5 second rule to me has always been that sacred 5 seconds after dropping food on the floor, as long as it’s picked up within 5 seconds it’s completely safe to eat.
Well, no, the book isn’t about eating off the floor, but it is about taking action.
Lacking Motivation
At the time I received this book, I had such a big task to do. My Fiancé and I had been meaning to redecorate our guest bedroom for years. The walls needed repainting and only after that could we assemble the new IKEA furniture that was collecting dust on the floor.

The reason it needed doing was that my parents were coming to stay with us for a holiday and we wanted them to feel like they were staying at a hotel. The spare room had previously been a dumping ground for anything and everything we had around the house. Since I started on a minimalism journey things have been better but I really needed some help and Mel Robbins became my personal cheerleader.
With just days until the arrival of my parents there was so much to do. I’d already painted half a wall months before and felt overwhelmed so of course I’d left it until the last possible weekend.

As I gathered everything up and heard Mel encouraging me through my BOSE noise cancelling headphones, I thought ‘I can do this! 5,4,3,2….1!’
Here’s a video of me prepping and painting the room.
Mel explains how making decisions in 5 second increments can really help in many aspects of life whether it’s speaking up at work, making big changes in relationships or even just getting out of bed in the morning. It made sense to me.
I realised I wasn’t a lazy person but sometimes (a lot of the time) I made silly choices and wasn’t helping myself at all.
So I managed to finish all of the painting. Then when the paint was dry my Fiancé and I started to build the furniture. The room was finally coming together!

After my parents had enjoyed their visit with us and had left to go home, I still had a lot to do. I needed to get back into creating content online and after a couple of weeks holiday and time away from my computer I just didn’t want to, this topped off with getting sick didn’t help.
Everyone’s experience with this book is going to be different I know and this wasn’t such a review but more of how it helped me. There will be different stories as Mel shares in the book and which I thoroughly enjoyed hearing about. Mel tells her own story of how she came up with the 5 Second Rule which I found absolutely fascinating.
This was the first audio book I’ve ever tried, it flowed through the topics and Mel narrates it so well. I think she sounds like Carrie Fisher!
So whatever it is you are working on, whether it’s redecorating or even motivation to learn a new skill like learning to code, this book is definitely worth your time.
