Geek Life Lately 26

It’s Sunday night, I’ve spent most of the day feeling nauseous, crampy and complaining about it. So here I am tucked in like the old lady that I am with a green tea.

I am fully aware that it’s been a very long time since I did a Geek Life Lately post. I won’t bore you with what I’ve been doing since the last one, but it’s been eventful. We are still wearing masks everywhere here (I have the permanent rosy face to prove it) and sticking to our new normal, livin la vida furlough and hoping things improve pandemic wise.

Shots, Shots, Shots

E has had his first shot of Pfizer and will be having the next one in about 2 weeks. At the moment the OMNI calculator is predicting my vaccine between 10/8/2021 and 18/9/2021 although I’m not sure how accurate that is seeing as E is predicted June/July and he just had his.

Burn Out

Because I’ve spent most of the day on the sofa, I’ve been thinking a lot. When I start getting those little burn out feelings, I have the need to take a breath and refocus.

I feel like I’m not giving priority to quite a few things that should be top of my list and instead I’m wasting time on social media, specifically Instagram. (Here I go again)

Instagram is the worst

It’s no secret that out of all of the socials, Instagram is my ultimate nemesis. I know why I hate it and if didn’t have a blog I would stay the hell away from it. Some bloggers are muy successful on insta and that’s amazing, but for me I’m sharing content there and basically working for Zuckface instead of uploading here on Cuteek, my little home.

One of the reasons I jump to share stuff on IG is because I feel like I will miss out on blog opportunities or that no one is reading my blog anymore (my analytics beg to differ, I actually get a lot of traffic and I do get the odd blog op – humble brag)

Could it be that fellow bloggers through no fault of their own find it easier to keep up on socials rather than reading blogs? I suppose I need to remember that you guys reading aren’t all bloggers or content creators, you are just having a read of my nerdy blog.

Currently

What’s new, some life admin. I finally got my annual haircut which feels loads better, a full eye test and some new, cute Ray Bans. We’ve had some lovely days dog sitting Chester and Cooper too.

STUDYING

I’m on a mad 191 Duolingo streak at the moment, studying Spanish daily as it’s my second language and I love it so much. I’m also taking part in Round 2 of 100 Days of Code, working through the Computer Programming course on Khan Academy.

READING

I’m reading a very interesting book called Outbreaks and Epidemics: Battling Infection from Measles to Coronavirus by Meera Senthilingam. It’s taking me a while to get through it as I’m a slow reader (and I get distracted by social media hmm) but if you are interested in whats going on at the moment and history of vaccines then give it a go. I was intrigued to read about Small Pox and how the word vaccine came about.

GAMING

Mid-March I revived my Youtube channel and I did my first stream where I played Fall Guys and I LOVED it. I’m back into Animal Crossing Pocket Camp and really excited to stream again, I just need more time.

GEEKFIT

I started the Ring Fit Adventure Club a cheer club for those playing Ring Fit on Nintendo Switch. We egg each other on, share screenshots on Twitter and have banter about Dragaux. It really does help with the workout motivation.

WATCHING

I am HOOKED on New Amsterdam! My sister-in-law recommended it and although I’m not really one for hospital dramas, this one hits different. They have some really interesting characters and the way they tackled current events was very respectful but real.
This afternoon I watched Stowaway on Netflix. It’s about Space, I won’t say anything else.

LISTENING

I’ve been listening to a lot of Myke Towers this week, and for times when I want to chill I listen to the Lofi Hip Hop playlist I curated on youtube.

If you made it this far you deserve a medal. Haha, hopefully these Geek Life Lately posts will be more frequent, like they used to be. I really enjoyed writing this, it took me about an hour but it felt cathartic to have a catch up.

How are you and what have you been doing this week?
