Is your kitchen overdue for a remodel? If you’re thinking that it’s time to get your kitchen looking its best once again, you may be wondering how to go about doing a kitchen remodel project. A kitchen remodel can be overwhelming if you don’t take the time to plan carefully. This room is so important you cannot afford to make mistakes. When we bought our house some years ago, we completely ripped out the kitchen and started from scratch. It was A LOT, but we had a good idea of what things we liked and what we needed.

Here are some of the things you need to think about when doing a kitchen remodel.
Find Out What You Like
When you’re remodeling your kitchen you should try to get as much inspiration as possible. Look at various types of kitchens to see what appeals to you. You can go on social media sites such as Instagram and Pinterest to find beautiful kitchen remodeling ideas. Save pictures of the looks that appeal to you. Also, do a Google search as well you might be able to find interesting ideas. Trends come and go so if you have a certain aesthetic in mind pick something durable and personal to your style. If you want a Star Wars inspired kitchen, go for it!
Think About Your Budget
When it comes to kitchen remodeling you also want to think about your budget. The amount of money you can afford to spend is important. Your budget will help you to decide on some of the most important aspects of your remodel. For example, do you have the money to reroute your plumbing or buy new appliances?
If not, leave the plumbing system in place and simply upgrade it. Repairing your old appliances may be a better option for your kitchen renovation as well. You can find the parts here to repair just about any appliance.
Start Choosing Materials
Some things are easy to select. For example, if you are going to change the color of your kitchen walls, you can start selecting the color of the paint that you want to use first. If you’re going to be changing your kitchen countertop, start looking at the different options available. Changing up the color or style of countertop can completely change the room. Our turquoise countertop was my ‘must have’ and probably the most expensive but it makes me smile and enjoy time in the kitchen every time I use it.
If you want to replace the flooring, look at the type of flooring that appeals to you as well. The bottom line is that no matter what you need you should take the time to carefully cross-reference your style and your budget.
Decide on the types of tables you want in your kitchen as well if you are thinking about changing them.
Tip: Take before and after photos of your project, they are fun to look back on. Here is our galley kitchen when we ripped all the tiles off and a little later once we had retiled and fitted the cabinets and frames for the countertops. This was pre-smartphone so excuse the grainy pic! If I find the photos of the newly placed blue countertops I will add it in later.

Choose the Right Contractor
No matter what you do when you are remodeling your kitchen the contractor that you choose will be paramount. Make sure you are choosing a contractor with high levels of integrity and skill.
They will be helping you to plan everything. From your budget to the type of flooring you will have in the kitchen, this must be someone whose advice you value and we will also listen to yours.
