There’s much to love about RPG tabletop games, but the best quality has to be how they allow friends to spend quality time together. If you play Dungeons & Dragons, Pathfinder, or any of the other popular RPG games, then you’ll probably typically do so at a public meetup.

But there’s value in hosting your own RPG game nights at home. They can be more cozy, and they allow you to curate your own invite list. The bonds you create with your fellow players will run even deeper when you’re sharing moments in your own home.

In this post, we’ll run through some handy tips that’ll ensure your RPG game nights are nothing short of a success.

Think of Snacks and Drinks

You’ll need plenty of snacks and drinks for your gathering. After all, those game nights can go on for a long time, and you’ll find that everyone’s in a much happier mood if they’re well-fed and well-watered.

There are a few options for ensuring that this is the case. If you have time to make a big pot of chili and some rice, then do so — it’ll always go down well. It’s recommended to ask attendees to bring something, too. That way, the pressure of feeding and watering everyone isn’t entirely on your shoulders. Plus, people feel more involved in the evening if they bring something to share.

Know What You’ll Play in Advance

This is a big one. While it can seem nice to take the diplomatic route and let everyone vote on what game gets played once they’ve arrived, in truth, you’ll find that it just takes up too much time. It’s much easier to decide what you’ll play beforehand. Thankfully, this is what WhatsApp groups are there for. Knowing what you’ll play in advance will allow you to get fully set up and ensure that as much of the evening as possible is dedicated to actually playing the game.

Invest in Quality Materials

Want to make your games evening more professional? Then ensure that your gaming materials are in good condition. It’s less fun to play with gaming supplies that have seen better days. Having quality resin dice will make the game night more fun. It’s also worthwhile to get some materials that will help to set the scene. For example, could you buy a quality gaming cloth for your gaming nights?

Make it a Regular Thing

As with most things, the more you put into your RPG game nights, the more you’ll get out. Look at making it a regular thing. After a few weeks, you’ll find that your game nights are running like a well-oiled machine.

Have Fun!

Finally, make sure that you have fun! Hosts can often become a little too preoccupied with being the perfect host, and in the process barely get to have any fun themselves. Don’t take the job of hosting too seriously — no one will be expecting world-class service from you. Let the games do the talking!
