Happy July! Welcome to issue 37 of Geek Life Lately! How quickly has the week flown by? I hope you are well and have had a nice week.
My energy still isn’t 100% after being sick with COVID and some days this week all I could manage was to do a bit of work from the sofa. One minute I was full of beans, the next my nose and sinus is blocked and I’m feeling clammy and unwell. I just heard that there’s a bad flu doing the rounds here too 🙃

Towards the end of the week I was back to doing some short workouts, speaking of which….
On July 1st the 30 Fitness Gaming Challenge restarted! I’m so excited to have the challenge back.

Fitness Gaming
I’m updating my daily fitness gaming progress, although it might be more yoga and Pokémon Go strolls for the next week as I’m still not feeling so good.
I tried Just Dance Now this week. It’s pretty good for a free game. Will write up a review once I’ve played a bit more. I managed to play 2 songs before my coins ran out which lasted about 7 mins.
I’m still trying to unlock some cute outfits in Nintendo Switch Sports but I did get a cute ribbon headband and had an awesome badminton rally so that was fun.
How I managed to film and do an energetic workout on Ring Fit Adventure on Friday is a mystery. I definitely paid for it the next day.
Monkey Island
I think I’ll do a separate post about the Nintendo Direct Mini but let me just say I was BLOWN away with the Return to Monkey Island news and I am so happy with everything they showed us so far.
The lego movie video game
I was browsing through the LEGO games on Playstation Premium. The LEGO Movie Video Game was not what I was expecting at all. In a good way. I haven’t seen the film but the short time I played, I was blown away with the direction it took.
One minute on a building site, the next savagely falling down a hole with a heavy rock music soundtrack. It’s definitely not a game you would be bored with easily. I do have a soft spot for the older LEGO games though, so I’ll probably play those first.
Fall Guys
Fall Guys has been fun this week, I even joined in with NickletonPvP’s Spartan Showdown livestream which was fantastic. The squad helped me unlock 5 PlayStation trophies and I played some new levels, Grab A Tail is so frustrating haha.
Star Wars Battlefront 2015
I rested and watched E play Battlefront 2015 quite a bit this week. No, I didn’t suddenly get really good at it, he’s been playing on my account. Shh don’t tell anyone. 😅

Twitch
Streamer Ibai Llanos broke a Twitch record this week, hitting 3.3 million viewers while presenting La Velada del Año II. 👏🏼
Blogging
Cat from Short Stacked Cat has returned to blogging! I miss reading blogs lately and so glad she has returned. 🤓
Tools
Statcounter has been down for most of the week, I’ve been using it since my very early years of blogging so I really hope it’s back up and running soon. Thankfully I use Google analytics too so I can still see my stats.
Remember when Instagram was just about taking a photo with the in-app camera and sticking a Lofi filter on it? I definitely noticed a shift as a ‘normal’ user and that’s part of what prompted me to leave the platform. It’s snowballed into a monster. I still need to use it for work and it’s just Reels Reels and more Reels lately. It’s exhausting. I work in tourism and the algo is showing me all kinds of crap. I just upload and get out of there which kind of defeats the object.
I can see a lot of users leaving Instagram or abandoning accounts with the new updates. There’s too many suggested posts, too much focus on videos and of course, the accounts that ‘win’ will be the ones spending money. NFT’s are on the way too which is a big eyeroll for me.
Speaking of which, Facebook are launching NFTs which will show on a user’s profile under Digital Collectibles. My 70 year old parents will be thrilled. I had to explain it to them using Name A Star certificates and sponsoring a donkey as examples. 😅
Twitter profiles on mobile changed this week and they now display an ‘About’ tab, which is now where your location and other details are displayed. You may want to go in and edit that part if you had something clever written in the location area like I did.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is my favourite Marvel film so far! I didn’t know anything about it going into it and have managed to avoid spoilers so I was nicely surprised. At the end credits I saw Sam Raimi’s name and it clicked why I enjoyed it so much. This was a different style and I loved it.
We watched season 2 episode one of Only Murders In The Building on Disney plus which was good as they are short episodes and something to watch while we eat haha.
I spent most of Saturday watching the last 2 episodes of Stranger Things. No spoilers from me, but I didn’t think they were going to be so long and there are episodes from earlier on in this season that were much better. It did have it’s moments though, one very badass scene involving Eddie in particular and another scene with Max say no more.
We’re back, Witches! Hocus Pocus 2 is coming to Disney+ on September 30th! With all the excitement of the Nintendo Direct Mini, I very nearly missed this announcement. They dropped a poster and trailer, what do you think? 🎃
How was your week? I hope you enjoyed this style of post and I would love to know your thoughts in the comments on any of the topics mentioned.
Thanks for reading,
Vikki 🌸
