We’re back with a fresh Geek Life Lately, so let’s take a look back at the month. February 2024 where did you go? I blinked, January vanished and here we are hurtling into March. This year is already going so quickly and I feel like we haven’t even had any cold weather this Winter. It would be nice to have a few snuggly blanket days and maybe some rain. Please feel free to grab a cozy drink or snack and let’s take a look back.

Minimalism

A few months ago I dumped everything off my work desk into a laundry basket with the intention of using the Container Method to declutter some stuff and failed. Let’s just say, months later the basket is still on the floor next to my desk. One thing I noticed is that I haven’t needed anything from the basket during that time, so it’s safe to say I don’t need the things in it.

Although I did find an important file buried at the bottom of it!! I’ve been going through daily picking a few things and sorting through them, this really helps with any overwhelm and I managed to donate quite a few things. Walking to the recycling station has become one of my favourite things to do and it’s nice to know things can be reused or up-cycled by others.

geek fitness & WELLNESS

Fitness gaming used to be a big feature here on Cuteek but it’s more of a geek wellness nowadays, I feel like it covers plenty. In February I went to see an Osteopath for the first time. I’ve never had my bones cracked before but once he got to work my back sounded like an old floorboard 🤣 I also had dry needling for the first time. It was a little uncomfortable but was the best way to reset some of my muscles apparently. The next day I was DONE. Haha now I know why I was told to rest, going shopping at Primark was probably not the best idea haha.

I’ve been keeping up with daily walks and occasional Yoga with Adriene. At my next Osteopath session I’m going to ask what they think of a possible return to Ring Fit Adventure and or my exercise bike.

After the dry needling I thought, it wasn’t SO bad, why not look for a microblading artist to finally give myself the gift of eyebrows. My 3 brow hairs trembled on the day of the appointment, I was VERY anxious as I’ve never had any permanent makeup or tattoos. So the last day of February was me getting new eyebrows microshaded on.

The artist I found was very friendly and did such a good job even recommending a completely different shape and colour to what I initially thought. I’m still getting used to them and currently in the healing phase, so I’ll keep you posted on it. I will have a follow up appointment in April where we can go a little darker if needed and touch up the shape. Having eyebrows after my shower and waking up in the morning has been such a confidence boost now I no longer look like a little Gollum running round my house. 😅

GAMING

Not me realizing that I barely play video games anymore. I decided to start doing collection videos on my YouTube channel and was shocked to find I hardly even look at them. Yikes! This inspired me to do a gaming check in so stay tuned for that! I bought the PlayStation 5 HD Camera at the start of February which I hope to use more of in March!

In other gaming news I have stepped down from my work as Ubisoft Creator and Outright Games Ambassador. Free games are great but they don’t pay the bills unfortunately. After mulling it over, it was the right decision and I now have less pressure to create.

There will still be the occasional sponsored game review here and there (which I always disclose) but no obligation to any particular gaming company. After some stressy health issues this last 12 months and lack of time to pick up a controller, I’m happy I landed on this choice going forward. This definitely lines up with my word of the year: Simplify.

Here’s my Nintendo Switch collection physical copies. I’ll be doing a digital version soon!

  • Alpaca Wonders Why – this is a cute interactive game about alpacas and the easiest PlayStation platinum I ever earned! (Thanks to Keymailer and Dillyframe for the review copy.)
  • Mario vs Donkey Kong – watched my husband play the free demo but found it a little repetitive and frustrating.
  • Toca Life World – This was a free cozy game I found randomly on my phone. I tried the character creation out and I’ll definitely be back for more once I figure out how it works lol.
  • Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age – E downloaded this from the PlayStation library and once I heard the music on the loading screen I knew I had to play it! Maybe I’ve been living under a rock but this is the first time I’d heard of this game. I DID recognize some of the characters though, the blue water drop monsters in particular! (Edit: they are called Slimes and I love them hehe). I’m still early on in this game but so far it is a MASTERPIECE. It’s an RPG with Zelda like vibes but somehow still a cozy game.
  • Fall Guys – I did a live stream checking what was new as it’s been a while. I ended up crown farming on the Chill Shuffle show level. The new Fame Pass comes out beginning of March.

STUDYING

  • Duolingo FTW! The streak continues.
  • There are some other things I would like to study but I need to rejuggle my time management first. Even 20 mins a day studying something, I should be able to fit it in.

Watching

I’ve decided to watch some older 90s and 2000s films that I missed first time round plus a rewatch of Star Wars in no particular order.

  • Star Wars Return of the Jedi – I literally googled ‘the one with the Ewoks’ because I couldn’t remember and had to see that epic dance party at the end haha.
  • Star Wars Attack of the Clones – admittedly I just wanted to watch this to see the planet Sullust but I think I got bored and went for my shower or did some chore while it was on. It was nice to see the blossoming romance between Anakin and Padme though, you know before he goes full Darth lol.
  • Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone – Sunday afternoon and Warner tv channel had a Potterthon, so I was like why not? I’ve seen the first couple Harry Potter films several times, but it’s amazing which new things you pick up on a rewatch.
  • Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets – again I must have missed a few things when I last watched. One thing that annoys me is Draco Malfoy’s hair lol. It’s like they didn’t leave the bleach on long enough and he’s left with a patch of ice blonde at the front and the rest is yellow.
  • The Godfather – what a MASTERPIECE! A long film but a work of art. I actually clapped at the end. Looking forward to part 2!
  • Love on The Spectrum (netflix) – I was sooo invested after just one episode. The episode of Dani and Solomon’s first date was adorable. 😍
  • One Day (Netflix) – no words. 🥲
  • Only Murders in the Building Season 3 (Disney+) Me and E have been laughing every 2 minutes. The writing and acting is amazing as usual.
  • The Vince Staples Show (Netflix) I had no idea what to expect with this, saw a promo for it which made me lol so giving it a go.
  • Miss Americana (netflix) Up until 2023 I hadn’t even listened to Taylor Swift’s music but thought since I enjoy her music I’d try this documentary. I think it’s important that fans remember that huge artists are people too.
  • Crossroads – How have I never seen this Britney Spears film? I found myself singing along and smiling at memories of adventures with my college buds.
  • Cadet Kelly – cheesy Hilary Duff film but a must watch for that 2000s vibe.
  • Happiness for Beginners – I was surprised by this. I was like that’s Kimmy Schmidt *points at screen* it was a sweet and predictable camping trip story with a nice ending.
  • Gotta Kick it Up! – another cheesy Disney film about a dance squad staring America Ferrera
  • Upgraded – another predictable romcom but it was nice to see London

READING

Books In progress

  • The Miracle Morning by Hal Elrod – this is a game changer!
  • How Star Wars Conquered the Universe by Chris Taylor – a must read for any Star Wars fan
  • The Little Book of Hygge by Meik Wiking – giving this another try and enjoying it this time
  • Ikigai: The Japanese Secret to a Long and Happy Life by Hector Garcia Puigcerver and Francesc Miralles
  • The Daily Stoic by Ryan Holiday – this is back in rotation and this year I’m highlighting stuff with a pen!
  • The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck by Mark Manson – my 2024 vibes
  • The 4 Hour Work Week – Tim Ferriss. My copy of this is very outdated but I wanted to finish it and have been picking up some gems here and there.

Books Finished

I’ll finish reading a book someday instead of starting another one. lol
