Do you remember the 90s candy called Push Pop?
One of the popular quotes at the time was “Don’t push me push a push pop” which a one of the kids in the ad to a bully.
My brain suddenly remembered this today so here’s the UK Push Pop ad for you to enjoy. Looking back on this now, it’s a bit of a weird concept.
Do you remember this candy? I’ve no idea if they are still available today but I remember them being sticky AF! The slobber would run down the lolly onto your finger and the label would start to peel off.
It was essentially a lolly pop in a pen style tube with a lid on it.
The idea that you don’t have to eat it all in one go and you could keep going back to it. The pen lid style meant you could clip it onto your clothes or belt or even school notebooks.
You would push your finger into the bottom of the tube, they would end up super slimy and of course they would turn your tongue a bright colour. They tasted amazing!
If you favoured one side of the lolly they did get quite sharp, resembling some sort of shank. Why was it always the best sweets that ripped the roof of your mouth and tongue to shreds? 🤣
I have a vague memory of rinsing my Push Pops under the tap to revive them and of course share different flavours with my friends. Don’t worry about how unhygienic that sounds, it’s back when we used to drink water from the hose. 🤪
The Push Pop is just one of many weird and wonderful candy to come out of the 90s, including Ring Pops! Ah the nostalgia….
